Nvidia Boosts AI Infrastructure with SchedMD Acquisition, Reinforces Commitment to Open-Source Slurm
Nvidia is deepening its investment in open-source tools to maintain dominance in the AI sector, acquiring SchedMD to enhance development of the Slurm workload manager. Slurm, critical for supercomputing and AI resource allocation, operates in over 50% of TOP500 systems. The MOVE integrates NVIDIA's Blackwell GPUs with advanced job scheduling, optimizing performance for large-scale AI training and scientific simulations.
"This acquisition validates Slurm's role as the backbone of high-performance computing," said SchedMD CEO Danny Auble. The deal ensures Slurm remains open-source and hardware-agnostic, preserving accessibility for researchers. NVIDIA's decade-long collaboration with SchedMD now evolves into stewardship of a key HPC software layer.
